A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR
About Exegis.
EXEGIS is a platform whose ultimate purpose is to gather thoughts and ideas, logically explained and whenever possible, demonstrated. Spinoza argued that nature unfolds through an unbroken chain of causes and implied consequences. Everything has a cause, an origin, which will also have consequences leading up to a new future. We could join that observation to a physical principle: nothing is destroyed, nothing is created, all is transformed, said a famous physicist.
We believe thoughts, ideas, feelings are also subjected to these laws — the laws of nature, if we want to join philosophy and science together. However, causation does not seem to favor one process over another.
This page will thus serve as a platform to share thoughts and ideas, ought to be logically demonstrated, on topics concerning society as a whole — politics, social issues, economy. We can always ask whether our conclusions genuinely follow from our premises.
The world has seen great thinkers, many of whom pointed to a form of philosophical system, a coherent framework intended to explain reality as a whole. At EXEGIS, at our small scale, we will focus on demonstrating one idea, one observation at a time. Perhaps the sum of many right demonstrations will lead the way toward a comprehensive system of thought, as those great thinkers intended. We can only be so sure of the rightness and coherence of our own thoughts.
Logical thinking does not require abandoning morality, compassion, or human sentiment. On the contrary, every analysis begins with assumptions and values that should themselves be examined. Objectivity is not the absence of values; it is the discipline of reasoning consistently from them.
Where is it written that the enlightened attitude had to renounce emotions? It is the opposite that seems true to me. The enlightened mind will then accomplish its task only if it does it with passion.
